State Rep. Peggy Scott Introduces the “I’m Not Taxed Enough Already” Bill

ST. PAUL—State Representative Peggy Scott (R – Andover) introduced a proposal to establish a fund for Minnesota taxpayers who think they are not taxed enough.  Under the bill taxpayers would be able to mark a box on their tax return and dedicate an amount to the fund.  It will be carried in the Senate by Sen. Amy Koch (R – Buffalo).

“There are many voices on the left calling for higher taxes.  They say they are willing to pay more, so I want to give them that opportunity,” said Scott.

Other states including Arkansas and Virginia have set up such funds. Between 2001 and 2005, Arkansas gathered $2,077 in contributions from 56 taxpayers.

“This proposal is about the hypocrisy of a vocal minority and the reality that Minnesotans cannot afford higher taxes. We need to reduce government spending, scale-down the bureaucracy and put government in its proper scope,” said Scott.

“I can say that I am taxed enough already, and this proposal will show that most Minnesotans think they are too.”
